IDE 2015 Drone Pitch Competition

Will feature submission categories covering drone hardware, software and service maintenance.  Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of Qualcomm Incorporated, a Fortune 500 company with operations across the globe, will be judging the IDE 2015 Drone Pitchfest, alongside Booz Allen Hamilton, Lux Capital, AECOM, LightSpeed Accelerator, Starburst Accelerator, PortTech, Pasadena Angeles, and AirMap.io, awarding $150,000 in prizes among three fortuitous winners.  Submissions will open Mon., August 17 and have been extended due to demand to Tuesday, December 1st 2015.

DESCRIPTION: The IDE 2015 Drone Pitch Competition is an initiative open to anyone domestically and internationally who is building a business involving unmanned aerial systems (drones). The goal of this competition is to encourage entrepreneurship, small business growth, and innovation in the unmanned aerial vehicle category.  There are 3 categories of entry: hardware, software, and maintenance/services.

JUDGING CRITERIA: 

Pitches will be evaluated on four, equally-weighted categories:

1. Presentation

  • Body Language/Charisma, Clarity, Articulation, Passion

2. Opportunity

  • Market Identification, Size and Attractiveness, Target Customer Identification

3. Solution

  • Value Proposition, Differentiation, Financial Viability/Profitability

4. The Big Question: Would you get another meeting?

Eligibility: Startup or early stage innovative businesses or entrepreneurs (including university faculty, staff and students and the broader community) , a fairly well developed idea or technologythat involve unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the commercial drone segment, and an interest in entering the drone accelerator that follows the pitch event.   Applications may be submitted by individuals or teams (no minimum or maximum for the amount of people involved)  – Entries generating revenues are allowed to compete, as long as annual revenues do not exceed $500,000 or the companies have not received more than $500,000 in institutional investment or grants (such as SBIR funding)

Awards & Prizes equaling $150,000 in 3 categories, along with 12 week drone accelerator program.
